JAMES WILSON POPPELL SR.

James Wilson Poppell Sr. 83 died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Poppell was a native of Screven, Georgia and a longtime resident of Savannah. Mr. Poppell was retired from United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Poppell was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bessie Poppell, his wife, Opal H. Poppell, his sons, James David and Dennis R. Poppell, his step-daughter, Linda J. Durrence, his granddaughter, Sharon Walsh, his sisters, Audrey Poppell, Gula Poppell, Ocie Lee Poppell and his brother, C.F. Poppell.

Surviving are, his son, James W. Poppell Jr., of Guyton, GA., step-daughter, Virginia O. Belanger of Topsfield, MA., his daughters, Wylene A. Lam of Savannah, Shirley J. Turner of Jacksonville, FL., Norma J. Muse of Guyton, GA., Tammie M. Reeder of Peoria, AZ, his sister, Lois Buckner of Savannah, and his 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2008 from 11: 30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Services will be Monday, June 9, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with burial at 3:30 p.m. in the Screven Cemetery in Screven, Georgia with full Military Honors.
